Sporting KC and Real Salt Lake Advance to MLS Cup 2013

Findley_RobbieSporting KC and Real Salt Lake advance to MLS Cup 2013 with wins over the Houston Dynamo and Portland Timbers, respectively.  The 2 sides entered the 2nd legs with the advantages.  RSL won the opener 4-2 at Rio Tinto while Sporting returned home after holding on to a 0-0 draw in the opener.

The Timbers came out of the gate fast knowing they had to reverse a 2-goal deficit.  They have been successful at the high pressure with the support of the home crowd at JELD-WEN Field but it did not play in their favor on Sunday night.

After thwarting the early efforts the visitors killed off the comeback when Robbie Findley scored in the 29th minute.

Sporting Kansas City were able to put aside the cold weather 20-degree temperatures then the visiting Dynamo to earn the chance to host MLS Cup.  It is the first time the KC team have made MLS Cup fince 2004 and the first time the Dynamo will be watching on TV since 2010. The visitors got the perfect start when Oscar Boniek Garcia found the net in the 3rd minute but Sporting KC responded with their own from C.J. Sapong in the 14th minute. Dom Dwyer, who won the PRO title with Orlando City earlier in the year, knocked in the winner in the 63rd minute.
