Rangers have been dealt a double blow with the news that Maurice Edu and Kevin Thomson are both set to miss the start of the new season.
Edu has had a successful operation after sustaining knee ligament damage against Dundee United, which resulted in the United States international missing last week's Homecoming Scottish Cup win.
The midfielder is expected to be sidelined for at least three months, meaning he has also been forced to withdraw from the national team's World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras and the Confederations Cup tournament later this month.
