The Los Angles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders opened their CONCACAF Champions League group stage with wins over Motagua and Comunicaciones, respectively on Tuesday.

Adam Cristman and Landon Donovan each found the back of the net before grabbing a man advantage for the final 20 minutes of regular time after Ivan Guerrero was ejected after a high right foot to the check of Sean Franklin.

Despite the advantage Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders was called on over the final 20 minutes to make several saves to keep the cleansheet.

"It's a very good start for us. It's important to win at home," Donovan said on the CONCACAF website. "We wanted to start well."

In a feisty match that saw both teams finish with 10 players and 10 yellow cards issues, the Seattle Sounders came from behind to down Comunicaciones 4-1. Mike Fucito led the way with a brace in the 61st and 67 minutes.

The start could not have been worse for the home side. Jairo Arreola notched the opener in the 2nd minute but the Sounders were able to rebound and level matters heading into the half with Brad Evans goal in the 35th minute.

The scoring was finished off with an 87th minute own goal.
