Women's Professional Soccer

After three seasons, Women's Professional Soccer called off their fourth season on January 30, 2012.  The league plans to re-launch but rumors do not support these claims.

    In the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer season, Brazilian international Marta of the Los Angeles Sol, garnered attention for her un-matched speed and success rate on goal. The three-time FIFA Women’s Player of the Year shared the WPS inaugural experience with fellow Brazilian National Teammate Cristiane of the Chicago Red Stars, whose bursts of creativity spiced up the American pitch this summer.

  • Umeå IK Ups the Ante for WPS All-Star Game

    The Women’s Professional Soccer All-Stars arrived in Saint Louis, Mo. late Friday afternoon, kicking off the first-ever WPS All-Star weekend. In a press conference Saturday morning, joining both the WPS All-Stars and their Sunday opponent, Umeå IK, in one room, Sky Blue FC’s Christie Rampone and the Swedish club’s Head Coach Mika Sankala addressed the teams and media.

  • Wambach Named Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of Year

    Women's Professional Soccer Star Striker Abby Wambach was honored as the Women's Sports Foundation as the Sportswoman of the Year (Team Sports) at the 32nd Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Gala held on Wednesday night at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
