The U.S. Men's National Team will have the home crowd in its corner when it faces Jamaica in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying rematch at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. A sellout crowd will be on hand for the fourth match of the Semifinal Round of CONCACAF qualifying, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Galavision. The USA (1-1-1, 4 points) dropped into a tie for second place with Guatemala in Group A following Friday's 2-1 loss to Jamaica (2-0-1, 7 points) at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite the USA's early lead thanks to Clint Dempsey's goal 35 seconds into the match (a U.S. record for the fastest goal in qualifying), Jamaica tallied back-to-back goals off free kicks and posted its first win in history against the United States.
Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Shanskville, Penn. In recognition of playing on 9/11, U.S. Soccer will honor the occasion by distributing American flags to all those in attendance, and will recognize three first responders from the New York City Fire Department: Captain Joseph Brosi, Battalion Chief Wayman Iriarte, and Lieutenant Jason Hickey. All three are members of the FDNY Soccer Club.
The U.S. Men's National Team was the first U.S. team in any sport to play post-9/11 when it defeated Jamaica 2-1 on Oct. 7, 2001, in a World Cup qualifier in Foxborough, Mass. With that win, the USA advanced to its fourth consecutive World Cup.
