U.S. WNT Open Volvo Winners Cup

After a nine-day training camp in Gothenburg, Sweden, the U.S. Women's National Team traveled south to Halmstad to prepare for two games over a three-day stretch in the first-ever Volvo Winners Cup, starting with a match against host Sweden at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 16, at Örjans Vall Stadium.

The USA then takes on 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup champion Japan at 7 a.m. ET on Monday, June 18, at Örjans Vall Stadium. The games serve as further tune-ups for all three teams for the 2012 London Olympics starting on July 25.

Both matches will be broadcast on the Universal Sports Network, which is providing live coverage of the June 16 match at 10 a.m. ET and a tape-delayed broadcast of the June 18 game at 10 a.m. ET. U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage has brought 22 players to Sweden - the 18-player roster that will compete in the Olympics and four Olympic alternates.

U.S. ROSTER NOTES:

  • Alex Morgan's scoring clip of 14 goals in 12 games this year is a rarity in U.S. Women's history. The last person to record double-digit goals at a rate of more than one goal per game was Mia Hamm, who had 18 goals in 16 games in 1997. Even forward Abby Wambach, who is second on the USA's all-time goal scoring list, has not averaged one goal per game in any year. She has been close on several occasions, including her 20 goals in 21 games in 2007.
  • Morgan notched a hat trick - the first of her career - to lead the U.S. past Sweden 4-0 on March 7 in the third-place match of the 2012 Algarve Cup. With that effort, Morgan became the 15th player in U.S. history to reach double figures in goals during a calendar year.
  • Midfielder Megan Rapinoe's next appearance would be her 50th cap for the U.S. Women. There are 12 players on the USA's experienced 2012 Olympic roster that have already surpassed the 50-game milestone.
