MLS Weekend Preview

Published: Thursday, 31. May, 2012 in category M.L.S.

After a long week of Lamar Hunt Open Cup action there is only one MLS match on the schedule for this weekend. The Fire travel to New England and have not lost to the Boston side in league play since 2007. Will that change this weekend?

Saturday, June 2

New England Revolution vs. Chicago Fire, 7:30 p.m.

  • Inextinguishable: The Fire have a 10-game undefeated streak against the Revolution in league play. New England’s last victory in regular season play came May 6, 2007 at Gillette Stadium.
  • Sene Streak: Saer Sene extended his goal-scoring streak to three games (with four goals in that span) in New England’s 3-2 loss at D.C. United. Sene had five goals and one assist in May (six games).
  • Dominic Effect: Chicago Fire forward Dominic Oduro has scored the last three times he has faced New England, once in both meetings between the clubs and once in 2010 as a member of the Houston Dynamo.
  • First Encounters: Although they had a combined 15 years of MLS playing experience, Fire manager Frank Klopas and Revs boss Jay Heaps faced each other just once, a 4-1 victory for Heaps’ Fire over Klopas’ Miami Fusion in 1999. This is their first meeting as managers.
