Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled the Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II by Nike in London on February 25th, 2010. Nike designed the new soccer cleat with input from top soccer players from around the world to insure that it was well received by players in the top professional leagues as well as your local league.

"For me, it's all about first-step acceleration, but twisting and turning around a defender is also important," the Real Madrid player said of the soccer boot. "The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II helps me do both, so I can beat my opponent and create scoring opportunities."

The Mercurial Vapor SuperFly II, the most lightweight boot ever by Nike, utilized the latest technology to improve acceleration and control of the ball. The upper has been re-engineered for a perfect fit and makes a statement with the ultra-violet color that keeps with the traditional vibrant colors of the Mercurial past while the bottom features a new traction control system.

The new traction control cleat has been labeled “NIKE SENSE adaptive traction technology”. This technology features an adaptive stud that can extend and retract by up to 3mm, solely based on pitch conditions and the pressure exerted by the player. Side cleats shaped like blades allow players to maximize cutting and allow for quick cutting, while secondary toe cleat provides added toe-off power for longer and quicker first-steps. This new technology allows for overall greater speed for all levels of play, improving the overall game of Superfly II owners.

The Mercurial Vapor line was first introduced by another Ronaldo, the Brazilian goal scoring king, in 1998. The boots were originally released in black, but a version in silver/blue/yellow was released specifically for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the blue/black version followed soon after. All boots were made in soft ground (SG) and firm ground (FG) styles, with the FG version using removable studs. Nike made a huge splash when releasing the Mercurials, it was their first boot to be made using synthetic material, and also their first release into the market of lightweight boots designed for speed.

With the launch of the Superfly II, Nike is continuing their devotion to the players and extending their line of superior boots. Since first being introduced in 1998, the Mercurial line has evolved with the help of top soccer players from around the world, guaranteeing that every player is able to compete to their maximum capabilities despites pitch conditions.
