Rodallega: Will become a free agent

Rodallega will become a free agent this weekend when his Latics deal expires after three-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium.

The Colombian became Wigan's all-time record Premier League goalscorer during his time at the club, though failed to find his best form last season.

Speculation had surfaced the Latics were looking to offload him in January, with the striker having previously been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as a host of European clubs.

But after seeing out his contract, the 26-year-old, who joined the club from Mexican outfit Necaxa in January 2009, will be able to leave for nothing.

Jackson has defended the decision to hang onto the striker, insisting a deal would not have been feasible in January.

"For any transfer to take place, there has to be agreement with three parties," Jackson told the Wigan Evening Post.

"Both clubs and the player have to want the deal to happen - and we never achieved that with regards to Hugo.

"We moved on, and Hugo was our player for the rest of the season. At the time it was the right decision, and that remains the case."

The frontman, who scored only two goals last term, is thought to have attracted the interest of Aston Villa, Stoke and Celtic.
