Favre: Buoyed by win

A 5-0 Bundesliga defeat against Werder Bremen last weekend was the lowest point of the season so far for the Foals, but Thursday's performance and result suggest that things could again be looking up for the side who finished fourth last season.

"I am pleased with the team," said Favre at the post-match press conference. "It was a deserved 2-0 win and it is good for our minds.

"This game has given us self-confidence."

It did not always look like it would be a positive night at the Borussia Park Stadion, however.

For the first half hour, Gladbach struggled to break out of their own half and only some good defending kept them in the game against a boisterous Marseille side.

"Our opening goal then played into our hands," said Favre. "That gave us confidence.

"It is not easy to beat Marseille. I think we can still improve. We've got to keep working very hard and carry on this way, game by game."
