Bert van Marwijk: Open to Wolsburg talks

Van Marwijk is the early favourite to succeed Felix Magath, who left the club yesterday with Wolfsburg propping up the table despite spending over £50 million on players over the last 18 months.

Lorenz-Gunther Kostner has stepped up from managing the Under-23 side to take charge of the first team for Saturday's clash at Fortuna Dusseldorf but Van Marwijk has hinted he would be interested in taking over long term.

He told Voetbal International: "I certainly have the ambition and energy to train a club side again.

"Wolfsburg is a club with possibilities and have signed many players this summer.

"But there is nothing concrete. I have not talked with Wolfsburg and I haven't even been approached. But I do know my name has been mentioned (in the press)."

Van Marwijk has been out of work since resigning as Holland boss in July following Oranje's underwhelming performance at Euro 2012.

But he has experience of working in Germany with Borussia Dortmund from 2004 to 2006.

"I think the Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world and I have previously worked at Dortmund," he said, before pointing out he has enjoyed his time away from the game.

"The moment I stopped after the European Championship was relaxing and exciting for me.

"Relaxing because I can do what I want and get to see my grandchildren grow up.

"And it's exciting that at my age I still get many calls from clubs."
