Khedira has warned not to expect too much from either side at the Commerzbank-Arena on Wednesday night.
Players from both teams are still in pre-season preparation mode and Khedira has questioned the virtue of playing a fixture at such a time of the year, although he has not cast any doubt on how seriously the home side will be taking the matchup.
"We are really looking forward to this game and we want to measure up to the best and we have got to try to win and also to play a good game," he said.
"We want to excite the fans in our own stadium and get them on our side.
"It is going to be hard as both teams are still preparing for the new season and many of the players have only been in training two or three weeks so we are not at 100% in terms of our fitness levels.
"It could be something of a lottery, but the players cannot really do anything about the scheduling - we just have to play it and get on with it."
With Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Gomez, Sven Bender and Lukas Podolski all unavailable, the game provides an opportunity for Germany coach Joachim Low to tinker with his side a little and give some younger players a chance.
Marco Reus can therefore expect to start having made a few substitute appearances at Euro 2012 and he is looking forward to a particularly exciting novelty in his career.
"It would be the first time on the same pitch as Lionel Messi," he said. "There is no doubt he is a world-class player.
"Everything he does looks so simple, even though there is certainly a lot of work behind it.
"It is definitely great to watch him, but we will see how to stop him tomorrow and I think we are well prepared.
"We are all looking forward to it against a world-class team and it is always good to measure up to them."
Looking forward was the most commonly-used phrase at the pre-match press conference with defeat to Italy in the Euro 2012 semi-finals still rankling.
"We wanted to surprise our opponents and impose our game, but we failed," added Khedira.
"We just needed to be more clinical with our chances, but in terms of our football and our attitude, we have matured and we are heading in the right direction.
"Of course we are lacking a title, but we are looking to get one."
Ron-Robert Zieler will keep goal for Germany with Manuel Neuer pulling out of the squad at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Khedira could come up against his Real Madrid team-mates Gonzalo Higuain and Angel di Maria, as well as Barcelona rival Messi.
