Borussia Monchengladbach manager Hans Meyer has announced that he is to step down from his position with immediate effect.
The Bundesliga outfit only narrowly avoided relegation this season after finishing the campaign in 15th position.
Meyer has recognised that there is a need for change and the 66-year-old is leaving his role in order to allow the club to progress.
"We cannot construct a team with Hans Meyer, a man of almost 67," said the former Hertha Berlin boss.
"With my experience, I was able to keep the side up - but beyond that things are counter-productive, for Hans Meyer and the club alike."
Meyer replaced the sacked Jos Luhukay last October on a contract running to 2010 as he returned for his second spell with Monchengladbach, having already managed the club between 1999 and 2003.
