Dimitar Berbatov has been linked with a move to Manchester United all summer and with the close of the transfer window looming the striker is still at White Hart Lane.

Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that he is no closer to closing the deals to bring in new players to Old Trafford.

Juande Ramos left the Bulgarian out of his line-up in Tottenham's 2-1 home defeat against Sunderland last week. He said he felt like Berbatov was not in the right frame of mind to play his best football.

The omission of Berbatov seemed like the first step for the Red Devils to seal the transfer deal.

However Ferguson is not expecting any new arrivals this week.

"I am less optimistic today than recent days. I have no idea what is going to happen," said the United manager.
