Fergie 'less optimistic' on deals

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is no further forward in his bid to bring in new faces before the transfer window closes.

United have been linked with a move for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov all summer and the Bulgarian was left out of Spurs' home defeat to Sunderland because he lacked focus, according to Juande Ramos.

That seemed to pave the way for a move to Manchester United to finally go through.

But when asked about possible new arrivals on Thursday, Ferguson said: "I am less optimistic today than recent days. I have no idea what is going to happen."
