Tim Howard has urged his Everton team-mates to remember their second-half assault on Standard Liege as they travel to Belgium for the second leg of their qualification for the Uefa Cup group stage.
The Toffees have been labelled as the underdogs for the fixture, but Howard believes it would be too early for anyone to write off their chances just yet.
"It would be awful to be out of two competitions so early on in the season," said Howard. "There is no question that last season one of the things that kept us going was being involved in Europe.
"When we were in the Carling Cup as well, it helped with our league form. That got better and better the more games that we played. Everything just started snowballing for us - we'd play good midweek, then play good at the weekend.
"Everything just kept going from there. Obviously we do not have the Carling Cup to look forward to now. But - looking at things positively - all we have to do is go to Liege and win. It's that simple."
