Bayern Down 10-Man Arsenal, Diego Costa Sink Milan

Arsenal_RedAfter the first 4 Round of 16 Champions League matches, the home side has not fared well.  The home sides have failed to get a result or even score a goal.  Bayern Munich downed 10-man Arsenal 2-0 while Atletico Madrid scored late to win 1-0 over AC Milan on Wednesday.

Arsenal looked to have the upper hand early in their match against the current holders Bayern Munich at the Emirates.  The Gunners forced Manuel Neuer to make a reaction save off a low shot and then saw him save a penalty attempt from Mesut Ozil.

But matters took a turn for the worse when Wojciech Szczesny took down Arjen Robben in the box and saw a straight red card.  David Alba had his penalty glance off the post to keep the score level at 0-0 but the Bundesliga side were too much with Toni Kroos placing a shot in the top right corner in the 54th minute followed by a late goal from 2nd half substitute Thomas Muller in the 88th minute.

Costa_Diego_CL_2_19Diego Costa was the hero for Atletico Madrid hitting the winner 7 minutes from time against AC Milan at the San Siro.  But the savior for the side was more likely goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.  The Belgian international was the Man of the Match and made several key saves to keep the scoreline level against a Rossoneri side that should feel the played well enough to win the match.

On Tuesday, Barcelona downed Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad while PSG slammed Bayer Leverkusen on the back of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic double at the BayArena.
