The Ballon d’Or was handed out on Monday with Cristiano Ronaldo picking up the trophy for the 2nd time. The Real Madrid forward and his biggest rival Lionel Messi have combined to win the last 6 Ballon d’Or trophies but who looked like the real winner from the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala 2013 at the Kongresshalle?
Ronaldo took home the golden soccer ball trophy but Soccer365’s take a look at the full package. The players are in their element on the soccer field with team soccer jersey and signature soccer cleats but for these galas the first looks go to the wives/girlfriends of these 2 players (and every big-time soccer players for that matter).
With only 1 Ballon d’Or to his name, Ronaldo stuck to a DSquared2 1-button black satin tuxedo jacket and black bow-tie with black trousers and white pocket square. A simple but trusted look. He fit in perfectly with most of the other nominees from the evening.
Ronaldo’s girlfriend since 2010, Irina Shayk, was on his arm with a black lace little black dress along with his son in his own tussled suit look. The 28-year-old supermodel is rumored to have secretly married the Portugal international as he referred to her as his ‘wife’ later in the week but some believe this was a translating discrepancy.
Messi came in second on the Ballon d’Or ballot but many thought he should take home the prize. He was no doubt making a statement with his red satin 2-button tuxedo. The Barcelona forward has been pushing the envelope with his awards ceremony style over the past 5 years.
But it may have been Antonella Roccuzzo, his wife and mother of his son, Thiago, that stole the show. The 25-year-old had on a blue sequin dress and complimenting silver accessories along with her permanent accessory, a tattoo on her right hand with the name of her son and a heart.
Who took home the prize on Monday night? Which couple looked better and brought their A-game to the evening? Have you seen any other soccer players making a statement off the field? Post your comments and pictures on Soccer365’s facebook page.
